The world needs more people like Maggie Darett-Quiroz. We would like to acknowledge Maggie's work and show appreciation for what she does for the NELA community! Maggie runs the Community Garden here in Glassell Park and is a great mentor to at-risk kids. Her enthusiasm and love for the community is truly amazing.
We recently heard that she also runs a backpack drive that collects backpacks (new or used) for children in need. We jumped at the chance to make a donation and were so happy to have been able to meet Alex, who received it. Alex smiled ear to ear and was so appreciative of a backpack to use to carry his school books.
Pictured above to the far left is Alex - he was the recipient of the backpack we donated.
And of course, we were put to work in the community garden too! Planting and harvesting - this is what we like to call dirt therapy. It's so beneficial to your mind and wellbeing. What an amazing time!
Thank you Maggie for the generosity you give to the people in NELA!
If anyone has a backpack to donate, please feel free to contact us OR drop it off to Maggie at the Glassell Park Community Garden - I'm sure she would love a couple extra hands to help out!
