A big THANK YOU to Rich for making his home brewed beer for our Superbowl Extravaganza! We are SO looking forward to tasting your delicious beer in less than TWO weeks!!! So Rich is so gracious to make a batch for us to drink on the big day AND he sent us photos as well as the steps he takes when he makes it. He says it's not all that glamorous of a process, but we here at Fitzburgh Realty thinks it looks pretty darn amazing! Check out the process below! :) Step ONE: Dry grains, crushed and ready to jump in a hot water bath Step TWO: Grains going into hot water to release malty, sugary goodness Step THREE: Grains steeping in hot water, this is called "mashing" Step FOUR: After an hour, malty liquid (called "wort") is drained away from the grain Step FIVE: The "wort" is then brought to a boil... Step SIX: These are hops, compressed into pellet form, soon to be added to the boil. This is one of 4 varieties of hops that I added to the boil. Hops release oils when hot to provide various bittering flavors. Final Steps are to cool, "pitch" yeast and seal up air tight for a couple week to ferment the sugars into alcohol! Then add some carbonation and you've got yourself beer! So now we have to wait TWO whole weeks to try out this beer at the Fitzburgh Realty Superbowl Party - in our opinion, that is the toughest step! |
