NELA's Secret Stairs Hiking Adventure & A Mission To Repair Them!

My nephew, Matthew flew in from New Jersey to visit his [favorite... cough cough] uncle for a few days and we were looking for something fun and active to do. The original idea was to hike up the popular Griffith Oberservatory park trails; however, with all the rain we've been getting here in LA, we figured it would be too muddy. Instead, we decided to hike NELA's Secret Stairs!

We documented the number of stairs and landings. There were a few steps we missed and had to go back down start the count all over again. But it was a great to be active and be outside in between all that rain we were getting!

At some of the landings we found some beautiful art painted by local artists. Love all the bright colors and imagery!

We even met a new friend! Her name is Cookie! What a nice and friendly neighbor enjoying the [not so] Secret Stairs!

While we hiked, we saw that there were portions of the stairs in disrepair and could use some maintenance. Which has us thinking... how can we help keep these stairs not only safe but make them even more beautiful? How about a community fundraiser to "Save the Secret Stairs"?!
