People of NELA - Maggie Darett-Quiroz

The world needs more people like Maggie Darett-Quiroz. We would like to acknowledge Maggie's work and show appreciation for what she does for the NELA community! Maggie runs the Community Garden here in Glassell Park and is a great mentor to at-risk kids. Her enthusiasm and love for the community is truly amazing.

We recently heard that she also runs a backpack drive that collects backpacks (new or used) for children in need. We jumped at the chance to make a donation and were so happy to have been able to meet Alex, who received it. Alex smiled ear to ear and was so appreciative of a backpack to use to carry his school books. ​

Pictured above to the far left is Alex - he was the recipient of the backpack we donated.

And of course, we were put to work in the community garden too! Planting and harvesting - this is what we like to call dirt therapy. It's so beneficial to your mind and wellbeing. What an amazing time!
