When Best Friends was founded in 1984, an estimated 17 million dogs and cats were killed in shelters every year. Today, that number is down to about 800,000, but that means nearly 2,200 dogs and cats are still being killed in shelters every day, just because they don’t have safe places to call home. 

Working collaboratively with passionate people like you, and alongside shelters, rescue groups and other animal welfare organizations, we are determined to bring the country to no-kill by 2025.
